Jay Ryan Book Release: No One Told Me Not To Do This

Logan Arcade is excited to host JAY RYAN of The Bird Machine's Book Release Party for "No One Told Me Not to Do This" (Akashic Books, 2016), on Thursday, December 8th. Copies will be available for sale and the author will be present to sign them and answer questions.

This third collection of Ryan’s “greatest hits” features prints made between 2009 and 2015, including posters for bands such as Andrew Bird, Shellac, My Morning Jacket, Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr., Hum, St. Vincent, and others, as well as posters featuring Lil BUB, Cards Against Humanity, various bicycle races, film screenings, and pictures of sloths, walruses, and other mammals in states of troubled sleep. With a foreword by master illustrator Aaron Horkey, this volume comprises two hundred screenprints with commentary and original drawings used in the screenprinting process.

JAY RYAN has been making screenprinted concert posters in Chicago since 1995. He learned to print at the now-legendary Screwball Press, and started his own print shop, The Bird Machine, in the basement of his apartment building in 1999. He served as vice president of the American Poster Institute from 2002–2007. In 2007, Crain’s Chicago Business included Ryan on their prestigious “40 Under 40” list, and the following year, Time Out Chicago named him a “Chicago Cultural Hero.” His books include 100 Posters/134 Squirrels, Animals and Objects In and out of Water, and No One Told Me Not to Do This.

Modern Luponics: Firestone Walker Tap Takeover

Logan Arcade is once again celebrating the release of the latest entry in Firestone Walker Brewing Co.'s LUPONIC DISTORTION Rotating Hop series by tapping it along with the previous entry. On WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 14TH, we will be serving:

-LUPONIC DISTORTION No. 004 "Four South African hops take the lead in Revolution 004...Revolution 004 is a departure from the more citrusy stone fruit personality of Revolution 003, but as always you will sense common threads"

-LUPONIC DISTORTION No. 003 "[Luponic Distortion 003's] overall profile is round and juicy, leaning heavily on ripe fruits with minimal dank or piney edges"

-2016 AGRESTIC "...begins its journey as DBA, then transforms into Agrestic by a “chrysalis” process involving 85% French and 15% American oak barrels and our proprietary collection of microflora. To blend, we selected beer matured eight to 36 months in barrels"

-OPAL SAISON "In true agrarian beer fashion, Opal is loaded with rustic grains and spicy Belgian yeastiness, with a hazy namesake opalescence in the glass. Into this mix comes a dimension of dry-‐hopped brightness, layering in notes of fragrant citrus and tropical fruit."
